Both Apple and Samsung have been embroiled in a bitter legal battle for sometime now, and it seems as if a resolution isn’t on the cards, considering the way in which both sides argued their case at a recent appeal hearing in the U.S District Court of Northern California. On the other hand, Judge Koh, who is currently reviewing the $1.05 billion verdict, expressed the need for peace between the two gadget-makers, in saying, “If there is any way this court can facilitate some sort of resolution, I’d like to do that.
I think it would be good for consumers and good for the industry.” However, Apple continued to make its case for the ban of Samsung devices while Samsung wanted the damages to be dismissed entirely all the while requesting for a new trial. The South Korean company also questioned how the jury arrived at such a figure and despite Apple urging the judge not to look at the damages awarded to them on a device-by-device basis, Judge Koh still thought it was fair to do an analysis of the damages by product.
In addition to the damages awarded to Apple, its representative wants another $500 million dollars as the damages are a mere “slap on the wrist” along with a permanent ban on selling eight of its products in the United States – as Samsung was found guilty by a jury to have infringed Apple’s patent leading up to the verdict. Judge Koh hopes that this long-drawn legal battle between Samsung and Apple can be resolved in a similar manner as Apple had done with another mobile maker HTC but will provide her ruling at a
later date.
