It’s easy to install two operating systems on your PC. Of course, there’s one simple rule that you have to keep in mind: your hardware must be compatible.
For starters, let us assume that your PC is not more than 5 years old and can install Windows 7 or 8 as well as Linux.
What you do need to keep in mind is that using either of these Windows operating systems will require a license while this isn’t an issue with Linux given that it is free of cost.
Now, before you install two operating systems on one computer, you’ll need to create an image backup either with a third-party tool or with the one Windows provides. Don’t do anything until you have created that backup.
After this, create a partition of at least 60 GB on your hard disk and then boot the system using a Windows DVD or flash drive.
Now, select the partition that you would like to install Windows on and which version of Windows too, whether 7 or 8.
Once this is done, you can install Linux in the other partition and which, by comparison, requires very little resources for a clean installation.
Of course, there are other options that exist when it comes to partitions one of which being the installation of a virtual machine program such as VirtualBox or VMWare Player. Once you do this, install the second operating system within this virtual machine program and you’re all set to go.
The main advantage is that you don’t have to make any alterations when it comes to partitions and as mentioned above.
That said, virtual machines comes with their headaches and issue – not everything will work in them.
