All of us have an old phone that was once loved by its owner – being brand spanking new. However, that time has passed, and your phone is now a former shadow of when it was at its very best.
But there’s always a chance that someone else might really like it like you always have…
Yet for that to happen, it will have to gain the affection of a new owner. It’s upto you to help it find a way to do that but also keeping in mind that your data has to be protected too.
So, the first question would be: Where can old phones be sold?
But, before that’s done, here are 3 steps to putting some cash in your pocket while helping your old phone find a new owner:
#1: Wipe the phone clean, data-wise
It’s obvious that you wouldn’t the phone’s new owner to see a single byte of data that you might have on it. So, the first thing that you will have to do is wipe it clean of any traces of info from your address book to several years of TurboTax data that you might have stored on it.
For iOS devices, you’ll have to select the ‘Erase all Content and Settings’ option while in Android devices, the ‘Factory Data Reset’ option is the way to go.
#2: Wipe the phone clean, physically
Next, turn off your device and remove the battery. It’s time to wipe the exterior of your old phone. Use lint-free cloth to wipe the device and if you you’re looking to remove some goo that has remained, use water or a solution of white vinegar and water to get the job done. At any point, don’t apply too much pressure on the device.
For the sale, take a few photos of your phone in clutter-free space at different angles so that prospective buyers can view the condition of the phone clearly.
#3: Sell it
Craigslist, eBay, Amazon’s reseller program, Best Buy’s trade-in program as well as services such as NextWorth and Gazelle are options that you can consider.
